A pipe holder is a load path. It takes forces generated by the pipe and hands them to something stronger, so that valves, pumps and welds never have to carry them.
● It transfers dead weight — the mass of the pipe plus the product inside it — into the building frame or machine skid.

Grade choice drives both corrosion life and unit cost. The rule of thumb for hygienic service is 316L anywhere chlorides are present.

The “L” matters. Low carbon (≤0.03 %) reduces sensitisation in the heat-affected zone, so welded 316L assemblies resist intergranular corrosion far better than standard 316 after fabrication.
When you write an RFQ, specify four things or you will receive a quote that is not comparable:

Work through this checklist before you send an enquiry:
● Confirm the tube outside diameter, not the nominal pipe size — metric and imperial tube are not interchangeable.
● Calculate the total load: pipe + product + insulation + any valve or instrument hung on the line, then apply a safety factor.
● Set the spacing. Support intervals depend on tube size and temperature; undersized spacing is the fastest route to sag and standing water.
● Match the grade and liner to your CIP chemistry and chloride level.
● State the finish requirement in Ra, and ask for a roughness test report.
● Fix the sanitary standard (3A, DIN, SMS, ISO) at RFQ stage so every component in the line is certifiable together.

● Do not over-torque. Follow the manufacturer’s figure; crushed thin-wall tube is a hygiene problem, not just a cosmetic one.
● Fit the liner correctly. A twisted or pinched gasket creates the exact crevice the design is meant to avoid.
● Keep the drain slope. Re-check slope after the first hot CIP cycle, when supports have settled.
● Inspect on a schedule — quarterly for high-vibration skids, annually for static lines. Look for loose fasteners, cracked liners and rust staining at the contact point.
● Replace liners, not whole holders, at the first sign of hardening or compression set. It is a far cheaper intervention than repairing a corroded tube section.
